How to keep notes while reading in Safari
You read something worth keeping. A week later you can't find the page, or you find it and don't remember why it mattered. Here's what your iPhone already gives you for this, and what ContextFlow does differently: it keeps your notes next to the pages they came from, with AI answers when you want them.
What's already on your iPhone, iPad and Mac
- Quick Note. In Safari, tap Share → Add to Quick Note. It saves the link, and the text you selected, into the Notes app.
- The Notes app. Copy a quote, switch to Notes, paste, write your thought, switch back. It works, but you leave the page every time.
- Reading List and bookmarks. They save the page, not what you thought about it.
If you only want to save a link with a line of text now and then, Quick Note is free and built in. Use it.
Notes next to the page, without leaving Safari
ContextFlow is an extension that opens on top of the page you're reading. Its chats work like a notebook:
Notes are free and use no answers. In the same chat you can ask the AI about any page whenever you like: summarize it, explain a term, translate a paragraph. Each chat lists its pages, so you can tap one and go back to it.
So one chat holds the pages you read, the answers you asked for and your own notes. It's your notes and your browsing history on one topic, in one place.
Ask about your notes later
Turn on Whole chat before you ask, and the answer takes everything in the chat into account: every message, your notes, and the other pages of the chat. That's how you get answers like:
- “Which of these three laptops fits what I wrote I need?”
- “Sum up what I've read about this so far, with my notes.”
- “What did I say I didn't like about the second apartment?”
With Whole chat off, answers use the last few messages and the page you're on, and your notes stay out of the request.
Where this helps
- Comparing things across pages: products, hotels, apartments, courses. Note what you liked on each page, then ask which one matches your notes.
- Reading up on a topic: a note on each article, then a summary over the whole chat.
- Coming back later: pin the chat, and the pages and your thoughts are still there next week.
On all your devices
Turn on “Sync chats with iCloud” in ContextFlow's settings, and a chat you start on iPhone continues on your iPad and Mac. Chats are end-to-end encrypted in your iCloud and never stored on my server. To share notes, pick the messages you want and send them as plain text with the page links.
Questions
Do notes use up my answers?
No. Notes are free. Only questions to the AI count as answers.
Are my notes sent anywhere?
Not when you save them. They stay in the chat on your device, and in your iCloud if sync is on, end-to-end encrypted. A note goes to the AI only when you ask a question with Whole chat turned on, because then the answer takes the whole chat into account.
Can I get my notes out?
Yes. Share a chat, or pick the messages you want, and it comes out as plain text with the page links.
Does it work on Mac?
Yes. On Mac, ContextFlow is a sidebar in Safari. To write a note, scroll on the send button or hold it.
